Overview
Shopfloor Apps Manufacturing Systems Engineer bridging Operational Technology (OT) and Information Technology (IT) to connect production automation with enterprise platforms and enable secure, scalable data flows for digital manufacturing and Industry 4.0.
What you'll do
- Connect plant-floor automation systems to identify, configure, and extract production data tags for central consumption.
- Configure and maintain OPC-UA servers/clients with certificate management, namespace configuration, and subscription tuning.
- Set up and maintain data historians to manage tag configuration, polling/compression, storage sizing, and downstream access.
- Build secure integrations between shopfloor systems and MES/ERP/PLM/IoT platforms using protocols like OPC-UA, MQTT, SOAP, REST, and AMQP, and debug payload issues.
- Write and optimize SQL queries for data mining, validation, and troubleshooting, supporting data quality investigations.
- Support MES implementations/migrations and develop real-time dashboards and monitoring tools.
- Produce technical documentation and help ensure solutions meet reliability and cybersecurity standards.
What you'll need
- 6–10 years of experience in manufacturing IT, OT systems, or shopfloor application development/integration.
- Hands-on experience with Rockwell and/or Siemens automation platforms (e.g., FactoryTalk, TIA Portal, WinCC, respective historians).
- Practical OPC-UA experience including configuring servers/clients, certificate management, and performance tuning.
- Experience setting up and configuring data historians (PI, FactoryTalk Historian, WinCC archives, or similar).
- Multi-protocol integration fluency (OPC-UA, MQTT, SOAP, REST, AMQP) and ability to read/debug JSON, XML, and SOAP payloads.
- SQL fluency for joins, window functions, and query optimization against production databases.
- Basic algorithm understanding (sorting, searching, complexity analysis) and understanding of manufacturing processes (traceability, quality checks, OEE, operator workflows).
