Software Engineer, Human Data Interface

Overview

Software Engineer on Anthropic’s Human Data Interfaces team, owning the architecture and execution of data collection pipelines for scalable, high-quality data gathering.

What you'll do

• Architect and build data collection pipelines to support rapid iteration.
• Balance data quality with system maintainability in pipeline design.
• Design crowdworker/vendor interfaces that are clear and efficient for high-quality data.
• Collaborate with research teams to understand evolving data needs and iterate collection methods.
• Partner with the Human Data Operations team on end-to-end data workflow.
• Prioritize multiple workstreams and make trade-offs as research priorities shift.

What you'll need

• Be a strong full-stack engineer with broad experience across the stack.
• Build internal tools and work with users to understand their needs.
• Thrive in fast-moving environments balancing iteration speed with system health.
• Demonstrate fast learning across complex technical systems (at a high level).

Nice to have

• Experience building human data labelling interfaces, human-in-the-loop systems, or data collection pipelines.
• Familiarity with preference data and reward models used in AI model training.
• Experience working with researchers as internal users/customers.
• Background improving user experience for user-facing applications with complex UI/annotation workflows.
• Strong system design instincts as requirements evolve.
• Ability to influence technical and product direction on a team.

Details

• Location-based hybrid policy: expected to be in one of the offices at least 25% of the time.
• Visa sponsorship is available (not guaranteed for every role/candidate).
• Minimum education: Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education/training/experience.
• Annual compensation range: $320,000–$405,000 USD.
