Specialist Software Engineer

Overview

Specialist Software Engineer (Java) for the Data Engineering team, acting as a senior technical expert for streaming and data platform architecture.

What you'll do

• Own architecture and technical design for complex data solutions from ideation through deployment.
• Serve as technical authority for streaming and data pipeline design across Kafka, Flink, and integrations.
• Drive engineering best practices across code quality, design patterns, testing, and observability.
• Lead and participate in design reviews and provide technical direction while unblocking cross-team issues.
• Mentor and coach engineers to raise the team’s technical bar.
• Own system reliability, scalability, and performance for critical data services by identifying risks proactively.
• Drive AI-assisted development and agentic workflows by building and scaling reusable skills and automation pipelines.

What you'll need

• 8+ years of experience in software development with technical ownership beyond feature delivery.
• Java expertise, including Spring Boot and microservices architecture/design patterns.
• Hands-on streaming stack experience with Kafka and Apache Flink, including performance tuning and production issue troubleshooting.
• AWS experience including services like Kinesis, EKS, S3, Lambda, IAM, and CloudWatch.
• Experience building with agentic AI tools (e.g., Claude, GitHub Copilot, Copilot Agent Mode, Claude Code, or equivalent).
• Experience building and maintaining MCP servers and AI prompt engineering; knowledge of RAG, embeddings, and vector database trade-offs.
• Containerization/orchestration and CI/CD experience with tools like Kubernetes, Docker, Git, GitHub Actions, and Jenkins.
