Staff Mechanical Engineer

Overview

Staff Mechanical Engineer for an R&D team in Hyderabad, supporting sustaining engineering, VAVE, and lifecycle management for KingFisher sample preparation systems and detection instruments.

What you'll do

• Act as a technical lead for mechanical systems and subsystems (assemblies, mechanisms, enclosures, thermal/structural components).
• Lead mechanical design, analysis, and troubleshooting of components and systems.
• Drive root cause investigations for mechanical and system-level issues, including field failures and reliability concerns.
• Lead sustaining engineering workstreams (design updates, component obsolescence, supplier changes) to meet reliability/durability/manufacturability requirements.
• Identify and implement cost reduction opportunities using VAVE and support alternative materials/components/suppliers evaluation.
• Collaborate with systems, electrical, and software teams for system integration, requirements, interfaces, and verification.
• Mentor junior engineers and support cross-functional/global technical alignment and knowledge transfer.

What you'll need

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field (advanced degree preferred).
• 8+ years of mechanical engineering experience for complex products or instrumentation.
• Strong experience in mechanical design, CAD modeling, and tolerance analysis.
• Proven ability in troubleshooting, root cause analysis, and design improvements.
• Experience working in cross-functional and global engineering teams.
• Ability to influence and collaborate across teams (stated as preferred/qualification).

Nice to have

• Experience with life sciences or analytical instrumentation (e.g., sample prep, PCR/qPCR).
• Experience with VAVE, cost optimization, and design for manufacturability (DFM/DFA).
• Familiarity with thermal analysis, fluidics integration, or precision mechanisms.
• Experience with regulated product development environments.
