Staff Software Engineer

Overview

Staff Software Engineer to lead technical direction for a major feature area or system domain, owning outcomes and driving architecture and design decisions.

What you'll do

• Lead architecture and design for large-scope systems under growth, compliance, and reliability constraints.
• Exercise judgment on where AI-assisted tooling can accelerate delivery versus where deeper human design is required.
• Collaborate with Product, UX, and other engineering teams early to shape problems before solutions are locked in.
• Set engineering practices for code review norms, testing standards, and incident review rigor.
• Identify and address systemic risk such as technical debt, architectural drift, and single points of failure.
• Mentor Senior and mid-level engineers on technical judgment and escalation/scoping decisions.

What you'll need

• 8+ years of professional software engineering/development experience.
• Hands-on experience using AI-assisted development tools (e.g., Claude Code, Devin, Windsurf, or similar) in a professional setting.
• Expertise in object-oriented design methodology and application development using Java/J2EE.
• Experience with design patterns, DSA, multithreading, Spring MVC, SQL, and web services.
• Experience with Elasticsearch and data streaming tools like Kafka.
• Good understanding of REST/OAuth/JSON for web services and SOA standards.
• Agile development (Scrum, XP, or Pair Programming) experience and familiarity with open-source and cloud services (Azure/GCP/AWS).
