Sustaining Engineer

Overview

Sustaining Engineer for the Punchh platform, owning production health, stability, and scalability while leading code-level issue resolution and operational reliability.

What you'll do

• Resolve complex, cross-system production issues affecting integrations or customer-facing features.
• Lead incident bridges for high-severity events with RCA, postmortems, and recovery.
• Perform end-to-end investigation of campaign and loyalty defects across reporting and delivery layers.
• Debug deeply using logs, telemetry, SQL queries, and source-level debugging; implement fixes and stability improvements.
• Design, execute, and validate remediation scripts that correct production guest-level data.
• Lead third-party integrations by validating and enforcing integration standards and best practices.
• Own daily monitoring/reporting, alert triage, and weekly operational communications.

What you'll need

• 5+ years in sustaining engineering, production support, or backend development in SaaS/platform environments.
• Strong Ruby on Rails experience for code-level debugging.
• Strong independent SQL skills for investigation and root-cause work.
• Troubleshooting experience across distributed systems, microservices, and public cloud (AWS preferred).
• Proficiency with RESTful APIs, OAuth 2.0/JWT authentication, and webhooks.
• Experience with cloud services such as Lambda, API Gateway, S3, and DynamoDB.
• Databricks and New Relic (or comparable observability tools) experience for scheduled jobs and monitoring/alerting.
