Overview
Technical Staff Engineer - SME (Power Electronics) providing technical leadership and customer technical support for Microchip’s High-Power Solutions business in India.
What you'll do
- Act as a regional technical authority for key customers on high-power semiconductor solutions.
- Analyze customer power-conversion architectures and recommend device selection and system implementation improvements.
- Identify, troubleshoot, and remove technical barriers to adoption across performance, reliability, thermal, EMI, and switching-loss challenges.
- Support customer evaluation and qualification activities from early concept through production release.
- Lead customer technical discussions, design reviews, and solution demonstrations.
- Partner with regional teams to qualify opportunities and support design-win activity and revenue forecasting with technical assessment.
- Collaborate on evaluation boards, reference designs, test plans, and application validation; assist with simulation and design optimization.
What you'll need
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or a closely related technical discipline.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in applications engineering/field applications engineering/power electronics design/system architecture or related disciplines.
- Strong technical experience with high-voltage and high-power semiconductor technologies including SiC, IGBTs, power modules, and gate drivers.
- Experience supporting customer design activity from architecture review through evaluation, debug, validation, qualification, and production release.
- Experience using circuit- and system-level simulation tools such as SPICE, PLECS, MATLAB, or Simulink.
- Strong communication and presentation skills for cross-functional and management audiences.
- Ability to travel within India to support customer technical engagements, with travel time stated as 0%-25%.
Nice to have
- Master's or PhD in Electrical Engineering, Power Electronics, or a closely related discipline.
- Deep experience with wide-bandgap technologies, especially SiC device behavior and system integration.
- Hands-on experience with high-power lab testing such as double-pulse testing and thermal characterization.
- Experience with relevant applications including industrial drives, grid-tied converters, renewable energy, or energy storage.
