Backend Engineer

Overview

Backend Engineer owning the backend behind a platform for AI agent long-term memory. You’ll design and run production services, build REST APIs, and troubleshoot customer issues end to end.

What you'll do

• Design and ship REST API contracts with versioning, auth, and rate limits.
• Model data and schemas across relational (Postgres) and graph stores.
• Debug customer issues end to end using logs, metrics, and tracing; reproduce and fix.
• Optimize performance by tuning SQL with EXPLAIN/ANALYZE, indexes, partitioning, pagination, and caching.
• Build services in Python including async frameworks and background jobs/queues/schedulers.
• Operate and deploy services in the cloud using Docker, Kubernetes (EKS), and AWS services.
• Instrument services with metrics, structured logging, tracing, and SLOs/alerts.

What you'll need

• 5+ years building backend systems and shipping REST APIs to production.
• Strong Python fundamentals, including async programming and a major web framework (FastAPI/Django/Flask).
• SQL and data modeling skills with performance debugging in Postgres/MySQL.
• Experience with graph databases such as Neo4j or Amazon Neptune and trade-offs for modeling.
• Comfort running services on AWS with Docker and Kubernetes.
• Demonstrated root-cause analysis and ownership from incident to prevention.
• Clear communication and collaboration with frontend, research, and customers.
