Design Engineer

Overview

Design Engineer role in Rockstar Games’ Product Design Team, creating and optimizing interactive digital product experiences by bridging design and engineering.

What you'll do

• Bridge design and engineering to implement and optimize interactions, details, and animations.
• Collaborate with designers to translate ideas into code and provide feedback and creative solutions.
• Prototype with code by building interactive prototypes to validate ideas and accelerate decisions.
• Partner with engineers to deliver performant product features that balance ambition and scalability.
• Contribute reusable interaction patterns, motion systems, and frontend components.
• Champion frontend craft across interaction design, animation, accessibility, and performance.
• Explore emerging technologies, tools, and techniques to improve product and digital marketing experiences.

What you'll need

• 5+ years’ experience as a Frontend Engineer, Creative Developer, Design Technologist, or similar role.
• Exceptional attention to detail and passion for craft and polish.
• Advanced working knowledge of CSS, including animations, responsive design, rendering performance, and browser capabilities.
• Proven experience using GSAP (or comparable libraries) for sophisticated UI animations and interactive experiences.
• Strong proficiency with Figma and Adobe Creative Suite.
• Proficiency in React and TypeScript.
• Ability to prototype and communicate ideas through code rather than static mockups.

• Full-time, in-office position based in NYC at Rockstar’s headquarters in Downtown Manhattan.
