Lead Software Engineer

Overview

Lead Software Engineer on the Appian platform, acting as a technical anchor for major engineering initiatives. Own platform evolution by leading architecture, AI integration, governance, and escalation for critical production issues.

What you'll do

• Transform long-term business goals into scalable technical milestones with Product Leadership.
• Lead the design of distributed, event-driven, cloud-native systems.
• Drive AI-native engineering adoption and implement AI features into the platform.
• Set and enforce system design and code quality standards to keep the codebase modular and maintainable.
• Create internal frameworks and “Golden Paths” to help other teams ship faster.
• Resolve critical production outages as the final escalation point and architect long-term fixes.
• Mentor Senior Engineers through design reviews and technical coaching.

What you'll need

• 10+ years of professional software engineering experience.
• Strong understanding of data structures, algorithms, and design patterns with both OOP and functional programming.
• Proven track record of leading technical initiatives from conception to global production deployment.
• Deep expertise in Java and modern web technologies.
• Extensive experience building and scaling distributed systems in AWS cloud-native environments.
• Hands-on experience with Docker, Kubernetes, and advanced CI/CD automation.
• Deep familiarity with observability/monitoring stacks such as Grafana, Prometheus, and ELK.
