Principal Engineer (L5)

Overview

Principal Engineer (L5) for Twilio’s Segment Data platform/pipelines team, building and scaling high-scale data ingestion and processing systems.

What you'll do

• Own and deliver robust, high-scale routing experiences for the Segment data platform/pipelines team.
• Architect and operate always-available complex distributed systems in cloud environments.
• Lead development of high-scale ingestion and data processing systems.
• Guide technical decisions by weighing trade-offs among cost, performance, and reliability.
• Ensure reliability, performance, and cost-efficiency while querying petabytes of data.
• Translate complex technical strategies into actionable plans for Product Managers and Architects.

What you'll need

• Have a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field.
• Have hands-on experience with high-scale messaging/streaming systems and processing engines (several thousand events/sec).
• Demonstrate excellent service design skills for modular, composable, and extensible interfaces/internals.
• Have expert programming experience in Go or similar object-oriented languages.
• Have experience identifying, prototyping, and deploying GenAI/LLM solutions for engineering or data processing challenges.
• Have technical depth in distributed systems, high-scale ingestion, and cloud-native architecture.

Details

• Role is remote and based in India (only in Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Maharashtra, Telangana, Delhi).
• Occasional travel may be required for in-person team or project meetings.
