Overview

Economist responsible for measuring and understanding AI’s effects on the global economy, including development of the Anthropic Economic Index.

What you'll do

• Contribute to development and expansion of the Anthropic Economic Index, including quarterly reports and industry-specific deep dives.
• Design and conduct empirical research on AI’s economic effects using external data sources and internal privacy-preserving measurement systems.
• Create new methodological approaches to study AI impacts on labor markets, productivity, economic inequality, and industry disruption.
• Aggregate economic trajectories (GDP, productivity, unemployment) under varying AI-adoption scenarios.
• Develop causal-inference tooling such as surrogate indexes and heterogeneous-effect pipelines.
• Work cross-functionally to improve measurement infrastructure and data collection.

What you'll need

• PhD in Economics.
• Strong empirical research track record using novel data sources and economic theory or frontier causal inference and ML methods.
• Experience studying the impact of AI on the economy (labor market analysis, task-based transformation, large-scale data analysis, and econometric methods).
• Technical skills including proficiency in Python, R, SQL, or similar tools for large-scale data analysis.
• Ability to lead complex research projects from conception to publication.
• Proven communication skills to present findings to diverse audiences.

Details

• Hybrid location policy: expected to be in an office at least 25% of the time.
