Senior Research Specialist, Oil

Overview

Senior Research Specialist within the LSEG Oil Research team, providing market insight and analysis on crude oil and refined products markets, with a focus on the Asian markets and based in Mumbai.

What you'll do

• Develop and maintain Python-based models of crude and refined product supply and demand balances and price forecasts.
• Conduct primary and secondary research mainly on crude oil markets, with a focus on building supply and demand models.
• Collect and manipulate data, and conduct quantitative and qualitative analysis.
• Assist in writing and publishing timely weekly and ad hoc special reports.
• Develop Power BI models and dashboards for distribution of model outputs.
• Prepare PowerPoint documents based on research and datasets.
• Maintain daily interaction with a network of local and international oil market players to provide market insight for clients.
• Conduct research, prepare client-facing materials, and complete workflow to the required quality and within the designated timeframe.
• Continuously maintain and improve core technical and analytical processes.
• Support the business development process by preparing client presentations to showcase capabilities and research.
• Work with senior analysts on building relationships with partners in the energy market.

What you'll need

• A bachelor's degree or equivalent experience in Economics, Mathematics/Statistics, Engineering or Petroleum studies from a reputable university.
• Experience of at least 3-5 years in the physical oil markets or a research house, with an understanding of market fundamentals and the oil value chain.
• Proficiency in Python to query, interrogate and build models using large data sets.
• Advanced skills in the Microsoft suite of applications and visualization tools such as Power BI (or) Tableau.
• Ability to conduct, analyze, and report primary research.
• Ability to communicate market insights in a clear and concise style through reports, presentations, and webinars.
• Good critical thinking, problem-solving and analytical skills, with excellent attention to detail.
• Ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously, while completing work to required standard within allocated timeframes.

Nice to have

• A master's or technical specialization / certification.
• Knowledge of machine learning techniques.
• Some understanding of financial markets, and their impact on the oil industry.
• Knowledge of market dynamics across other regions or at the global level.
