Software Engineer (Secrets Manager & AI Identity)

Overview

Senior Software Engineer for Bitwarden’s Secrets Manager team, building a secrets engine, M2M authorization protocols, and developer CLI/SDKs that extend into an AI Identity and Access platform.

What you'll do

• Design, build, and maintain high-performance APIs, SDKs, and CLIs for Secrets Manager.
• Implement zero-knowledge machine authentication, scoped access tokens, and runtime secrets injection gateways.
• Work in a decoupled architecture where Secrets Manager runs as a scalable independent tenant with dedicated data stores.
• Own automated testing, deployment pipelines, and production operational health, including on-call and postmortems.
• Build developer-friendly API endpoints, integration libraries, and technical documentation.
• Threat-model new services, remediate security vulnerabilities, and maintain audited compliance standards.

What you'll need

• 3–6 years of software engineering experience.
• Strong experience with AI-led development in Rust, C#/.NET, or TypeScript.
• Experience designing or integrating machine identity platforms, vaulting services, OAuth/OIDC, or token authorization (JWT/access tokens/API keys).
• Interest in AI/agent security implications such as LLM memory isolation or sandboxed execution.
• Experience with automated integration tests, Docker/Kubernetes, and production monitoring tools (e.g., Azure Monitor, Grafana).
• Solid understanding of encryption, zero-knowledge protocols, and OS-level secure storage APIs.
• Excellent written communication and passion for open-source software and developer tooling.
